2027: No Alliance with APC, Wike-Backed PDP Insists

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly ruled out any alliance or collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party declared its determination to contest independently and defeat the APC at the polls.PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, made this position clear in an exclusive interview on Tuesday, describing claims of a PDP-APC alliance as “mischievous.”

“We have no alliance or romance with the APC. The PDP is on its own, and our target is to defeat the APC. And we will defeat APC come 2027,” Mohammed stated.

He noted that the PDP is receiving defections from the APC and sees no basis for any partnership, given the current political dynamics.

Mohammed also provided an update on the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections, revealing that the screening of aspirants has commenced smoothly.

He said governorship and presidential aspirants will be screened at Legacy House on Thursday, while forms are already being returned by interested candidates from various states.

In a related development, stakeholders aligned with the Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu-led National Working Committee reiterated that their leadership structure remains valid, dismissing interpretations of recent court judgments suggesting a leadership vacuum in the party.

The Wike-backed PDP’s declaration comes amid ongoing internal divisions within the opposition party, as different factions position themselves for the 2027 polls.

The faction expressed strong confidence in its ability to mount a formidable challenge against the APC.
