Cubana Chief Priest: I Stepped Down Before APC Primary, Did Not Participate

Celebrity businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has clarified that he voluntarily withdrew from the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State and did not participate in the election.

In a series of Instagram posts on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Okechukwu addressed reports claiming he contested and scored only 14 votes, describing such claims as “coordinated mischief” intended to generate unnecessary online attention.

He explained that he stepped down after Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma presented the party’s zoning arrangement, which favours Orlu Local Government Area to complete at least two terms before the seat rotates to other areas in the constituency.

According to him, his elder brother, Asiwaju Jerry Alagboso, had previously represented the area for three terms, making it inappropriate for his local government to contest at this time.

“I chose not to proceed to the field, and indeed, I never did. Nobody will say they saw me anywhere around the primaries venue. In fact, I did not participate, as I headed straight back to Lagos,” he stated.

Okechukwu said the party’s position was communicated to him in the early hours of Saturday, prompting his immediate withdrawal out of respect for the party leadership.

He noted that his initial interest was driven by concerns over the performance of the incumbent lawmaker, Canice Nwachukwu.

He also dismissed rumours of being indebted to supporters, insisting his aspiration was self-funded and motivated by personal conviction to serve.

Despite the episode, Cubana Chief Priest reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“The APC remains my party, today and always. I remain loyal and committed to the ideals and leadership of our great party,” he declared.
