APC Clears Wike Loyalists, Denies Serving Senator, Fubara Allies Senate Tickets in Rivers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has screened out several high-profile aspirants in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 senatorial primaries, in a move that strongly favors allies of former Governor Nyesom Wike while shutting out a serving senator and some loyalists of incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

According to a list released by the party, prominent figures not cleared to contest include:

Senator Ipalibo Banigo, who represents Rivers West and previously served as the state’s deputy governor.

Tamunobaabo Danagogo, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) under both Wike and Fubara.

Ojukaye Amachree

Jack-Rich Tein, a businessman and former presidential aspirant.

In contrast, the APC cleared Felix Obuah, a former PDP chairman in the state, to contest the Rivers West senatorial seat.

The party also approved Senator Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East) for re-election, along with Barry Mwara and Osarosaka Ebenezer for the Rivers South-East senatorial district.

This development comes shortly after the party screened out four House of Representatives aspirants aligned with Governor Fubara, including three serving federal lawmakers:

Anderson Allison Igbiki, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead.Meanwhile, several key Wike loyalists secured APC tickets during the House of Representatives primaries held across Rivers State’s 13 federal constituencies.

Notable among them is Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who emerged unopposed as the candidate for Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency I, polling 17,968 votes.

Other Wike allies who clinched tickets include Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Blessing Amadi, Felix Nweke, and Chukwuemele Obuzor.

The outcome signals a significant realignment within Rivers APC, with Wike’s influence appearing dominant as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
