The Presidency has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party leader Peter Obi, and activist Omoyele Sowore of constantly attacking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s personal life, politics, and policies in a bid to seize power in 2027.
Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the accusation in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Bwala said the trio have been making noise about the current administration without offering any clear alternative path or solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.“When you see these people wanting to take power from and constantly attacking his life, politics and policies, you would be forced to shake your head in disbelief,” Bwala wrote.
He questioned the democratic credentials of the opposition figures:
On Sowore: Accused him of running a political party where he appoints himself national chairman to secure automatic tickets, only to reclaim the position after losing elections.
On Peter Obi: Criticised him for jumping from one party to another in search of automatic tickets without primaries, while his supporters are subjected to competitive primaries.
On Atiku Abubakar: Described him as someone who changes parties freely to pursue his ambition but labels others as betrayers when they do the same.
Bwala contrasted their approach with that of President Tinubu, stating that the President demonstrated greater democratic credentials by allowing a primary contest within the APC instead of imposing a consensus candidate.
“What all these opposition aspirants are doing everyday is to simply make noise about our government without offering a clear alternative path. Taking advantage of any misfortune that happens to Nigerians as talking points… Talk is cheap,” he added.
The sharp response from the Presidency comes amid heightened political activities as various opposition figures and parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
