Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, has publicly criticised his former principal, urging him to stay away from the 2027 race if he is not ready for a fight.
In an interview released on X on Monday, Datti faulted Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party, saying he should have remained to resolve the party’s internal challenges rather than walking away.
“As much as I dislike what the All Progressives Congress has done against Nigerians, someone who got the Labour Party’s ticket so easily should have stayed to fix the problem of the party no matter how difficult it is,” Datti said.
“My former leader (Peter Obi) saying that wherever there is a quarrel, he will walk away? So there is a quarrel in Nigeria, will he walk away? If you are not ready to fight, stay in your house.”
Datti also reiterated his earlier position that the North is unlikely to rally behind a joint Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket.
The criticism comes shortly after Obi and former Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday.
