Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has bluntly told President Bola Tinubu to prepare to vacate the Presidential Villa after the 2027 elections.
Atiku, who emerged as the ADC’s flag bearer after defeating prominent contenders including Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, issued the challenge while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
“President Tinubu should better pack and go back to Lagos,” Atiku declared, expressing confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would lose the upcoming presidential election.
The ADC primary, which Atiku won with a decisive 1,846 votes, was described by him as free and fair. However, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen have rejected the outcome.
In his victory speech, Atiku congratulated other contestants and urged them to rally behind the party’s mission. “I congratulate my fellow contestants for this ticket to represent our great party in the elections scheduled for early next year,” he said.
“I know that you are driven by your patriotism and commitment to a better Nigeria and improved life for our people.”
The development sets the stage for what promises to be a highly competitive 2027 presidential race, with Atiku positioning the ADC as a formidable alternative to the APC.
