Jude Imagwe, Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has dismissed claims that his principal is eyeing a return to the presidency in 2027, saying there is no evidence he has purchased nomination forms.
Imagwe made the clarification on Wednesday during an interview on News Central Television while reacting to ongoing speculations about Jonathan’s political ambition.
He described the reports as unofficial and lacking substance. “There is no suggested evidence that shows that my boss (Goodluck Jonathan) purchased or obtained the form,” Imagwe stated.
The aide was responding to claims by PDP chieftain Umar Sani, who alleged that Jonathan had already bought the PDP presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 election.
Imagwe further noted: “Some people said they granted him a waiver. If they have done that in the circuit, I as an individual do not know that they granted him waiver. They are trying to make all this ceremony out of it.”
He emphasised that Jonathan is a man of strong character who would not need others to announce his intentions.
“I find it relatively difficult to suggest right now that my boss, the former president, is actually contesting an election and if he’s contesting an election, it shouldn’t be announced to people by Prozy,” he added.
Imagwe stressed that any decision to run remains entirely Jonathan’s personal choice.
