A member of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s entry into the 2027 presidential race will significantly shake up Nigeria’s political landscape.
Agbedi, who represents Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency in Bayelsa State, confirmed that Jonathan will contest the 2027 election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.“It carries significant weight; it will disrupt the entire political environment,” Agbedi declared when asked about the impact of Jonathan’s candidacy in a race that already includes Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others challenging President Bola Tinubu.
The Bayelsa lawmaker added that Jonathan is now better prepared and more qualified than ever to lead the country. “He is more qualified for the position. A serious nation seeks out the most capable individuals… to steer our nation,” he said.
Agbedi noted that after eight years of former President Muhammadu Buhari and three years under President Tinubu, many Nigerians are yearning for Jonathan’s return to provide stability and address the current hardships.
His comments follow a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja on Tuesday, where Justice Peter Lifu dismissed a suit seeking to bar Jonathan from contesting the 2027 election.
The court described the lawsuit as an abuse of court process and awarded costs against the plaintiff.
