Yoruba APC Leaders in FCT Reaffirm Full Support for Tinubu’s Re-election

Yoruba leaders and newly inaugurated executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have declared strong backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing it as a strategic push to advance his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The commitment emerged from a high-level interactive session held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, convened by Chief Dr. Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), and Dr. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, drew party stalwarts from all 62 wards across the six Area Councils.

In a communiqué issued after the session, the leaders outlined a clear political roadmap for the Yoruba community in the capital.

Key resolutions included:

A unanimous pledge to mobilize voters across districts and communities to secure President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

A comprehensive SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) conducted for each Area Council to sharpen electoral strategies and address internal challenges.

A call for increased representation of Yoruba residents in FCT governance structures, with participants arguing that greater inclusion would boost loyalty and enhance political stability.

Dr. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi stressed the importance of collective effort, stating: “Capacity alone does not guarantee opportunity; opportunity can only thrive where unity and love prevail.”

She urged members to place group progress above personal ambitions. The gathering also appealed to the government to sustain the distribution of palliatives and social intervention programmes, emphasizing that visible benefits at the grassroots level are crucial for sustaining public confidence and voter support.

A major focus was on fostering internal unity. Leaders specifically called for reconciliation in the Bwari Area Council to resolve lingering grievances from past primaries and warned against actions that could fragment the Yoruba political bloc in the FCT.

Participants gave special commendation to Chief Dr. Abiodun Essiet for her exceptional grassroots mobilization efforts across the North Central region, crediting her with effectively linking the presidency to local communities and building a strong foundation for the party’s future campaigns.

The meeting ended with an appeal to Yoruba residents in Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to actively participate in and take ownership of the political process, marking what organizers described as a unified and energetic launch of activities toward the 2027 elections.

This development reflects ongoing efforts by APC stakeholders in the FCT to consolidate support for the ruling party and President Tinubu ahead of the next general polls.
