Tunji-Ojo’s Reforms Earn Global Honour at African Leadership Awards

Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has received international acclaim for his transformative reforms, clinching the Personality of the Year Award at the Face of African Leadership Awards organised by Triangle International Magazine.

The prestigious award was presented on April 2, 2026, at the historic Great Hall of King’s College London during the Triangle News International 10th Year Anniversary and African Leadership Awards Dinner.

It recognises Tunji-Ojo’s remarkable strides in modernising key government services under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In just under two years, Tunji-Ojo has driven significant changes across Nigeria’s immigration, identity management, correctional, and security sectors.

Key initiatives include the deployment of the Centralised Interior Management and Administration System, which has drastically reduced bureaucratic delays, shortened waiting times at airports and passport offices, and improved coordination among agencies.

His reforms emphasise citizen-centric service delivery, digital innovation, and human dignity. Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, have reported noticeable improvements in passport processing, identity services, and overall government responsiveness.

The minister has also prioritised rehabilitation, education, and welfare in correctional facilities shifting the narrative from mere confinement to genuine transformation.

Speaking on the recognition, Tunji-Ojo dedicated the award to his team and the broader commitment to national service, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen institutions while improving staff welfare and public trust.

The award has been hailed as validation of Nigeria’s governance reforms on the global stage, particularly boosting confidence among the diaspora.

Organisers praised Tunji-Ojo’s leadership style marked by accessibility, results-orientation, and a blend of discipline with empathy as a model for public service excellence in Africa.

This honour adds to growing recognition of Tunji-Ojo’s contributions to efficient, accountable, and people-focused governance in Nigeria.
