We'll not allow INEC undermine the will of the people - Kwakwanso speaks on protest

Former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has insisted that opposition leaders will not stand idle amid alleged oppression from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led government.

Kwankwaso stated this while reacting to the peaceful protest staged at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

It was earlier reported that the coalition of the opposition figures, who adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the next election and a mammoth crowd of supporters staged a protest at the INEC office in Abuja.

The protesters, who included Kwankwaso, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kano State Governor and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, were led by a factional National Chairman of the party, David Mark.

The protest followed the decision of the electoral umpire to suspend the recognition of the David-led faction of the party.

Posting photos from the protest on his Facebook page, Kwankwaso said he “joined fellow coalition leaders and committed democrats to strongly condemn the blatant partisanship and compromised neutrality” of INEC.

He noted that the “peaceful procession in Abuja united various opposition groups in a clear message: we will not stand idly by while our electoral umpire undermines the will of the people”.

“We shall continue to closely monitor INEC’s activities and demand that it immediately returns to the path of impartiality, transparency, and professionalism so that democracy can thrive in Nigeria,” he added.
