Terrorists Attack Kaduna Churches, Kill Seven, Abduct Others

Terrorists struck two churches in Ariko community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in the early hours of Sunday during Easter celebrations, killing at least seven people and abducting several others.

The attackers targeted the First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, both located in the Ariko District.

They arrived in large numbers, surrounded the area, and opened sporadic fire on worshippers, throwing the community into panic.

Mark Bawa, the councillor representing Awon Ward, which includes Ariko District, confirmed the incident.

Speaking to news men while on his way to the community, he said the exact number of casualties was still being verified, with some sources reporting seven deaths and others eight.

“Several people were killed, and many others were taken away into the bush,” Bawa stated.

He noted that poor telecommunications coverage in the area likely delayed any immediate security response, allowing the assailants to operate for a prolonged period without resistance.

Residents expressed deep concern over the vulnerability of rural communities in Southern Kaduna, especially during religious gatherings and festive periods.

The attack comes barely two months after a similar incident in Kurmin Wali community, also in Kachia LGA, where scores of worshippers were abducted during a church event in February 2026.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said he would provide further details on the incident.

This latest assault has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges facing Southern Kaduna.
