Plateau Crisis: Residents Who Saved Christians, Muslims Rewarded with N1Million


Residents of Anguwan Rogo and Anguwan Rukuba communities in Jos, Plateau State, have been rewarded with N1 million for protecting people of the opposing faith during the recent violence in the area.


The two communities each received N500,000 from former House of Representatives member, Hon. Gwani Muhammad Adam Alkali, for acts of humanity during the crisis.


According to reports, on Sunday last week, residents of Anguwan Rukuba shielded several Muslims who were caught in the violence after gunmen attacked the community. 


The Muslims were later handed over safely to security agencies and community leaders.Two days later, when fresh violence erupted in parts of Jos North affecting Christians in Anguwan Rogo, residents of that community also protected the Christians and handed them over to security personnel once the situation calmed.


Hon. Alkali commended the residents for putting humanity above religious differences and urged others to emulate their example in promoting peaceful coexistence.Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Blessed Geoffrey from Anguwan Rukuba said: “What we did was simply put humanity first protecting our neighbors regardless of their faith. They are human beings like us.”


Muhammad Sulaiman from Anguwan Rogo added: “Humanity is above religion. We are proud of what both communities achieved together. We appreciate this gesture as it strengthens the bond between us and our Christian neighbors.”


At least 28 people were killed when gunmen attacked Anguwan Rukuba during the crisis.
