Boko Haram/ISWAP Attacks Borno Police Station, Kills Four Policemen, One Hunter

At least four police officers and one hunter were killed when suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists attacked a divisional police headquarters and an IDP camp in Borno State.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 4, 2026.

According to Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the first assault targeted the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters around 1:00 a.m. in Nganzai Local Government Area.

The terrorists attempted to overrun the station using Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons.

Police officers, supported by the Police Mobile Force and Crack Squad, engaged them in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled the attack, preventing the insurgents from taking over the town.

Four police personnel lost their lives during the gunfight, while a section of the police station was damaged and an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was partially burnt.

In a related incident at about 2:40 a.m., the terrorists attacked the Malam Fatori IDP Camp in Damasak town, Mobbar Local Government Area.

They targeted a duty post manned by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and hunters at the entrance of the camp. One hunter, identified as Atom Abua, aged 40, was killed, and about 20 thatched houses were destroyed.

Combined security forces comprising the Police, Military, CJTF, and local hunters responded swiftly to both attacks, repelled the terrorists, and restored normalcy in the affected areas.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has deployed additional manpower and operational assets to the communities to strengthen security.

He commended the bravery of the officers involved and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

The Command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, while urging the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
