Our Policies Saved Nigeria from Economic Disaster — CBN Deputy Governor

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s monetary policies, implemented in synergy with the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms, have rescued the country from economic disaster and positioned it for sustainable growth, according to CBN Deputy Governor for Corporate Services, Emem Usoro.

Usoro made the assertion on Saturday while delivering an acceptance speech after she was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (honoris causa) by the Akwa Ibom State University during its combined 9th to 12th convocation ceremonies in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

“We have developed systems and implemented policies that brought the country back from economic disaster and are positioning the economy to better serve all segments of society,” she said.

The deputy governor highlighted that the alignment of CBN’s monetary policies with the government’s fiscal reforms has already delivered exchange rate stability, broader macroeconomic stability, boosted economic growth, and fostered an inclusive economy for sustainable development.

“At the Central Bank of Nigeria, we are working hard to build a resilient economy that would support your dreams and make you part of a global economy that is full of immense opportunities,” Usoro added.

She emphasised the critical role of young people in driving national progress, citing Singapore, Japan, and South Korea as examples of nations that achieved prosperity by harnessing the innovation and energy of their youth despite limited natural resources.

Usoro also announced that the CBN would provide financial support to strengthen the university’s academic and research programmes.

The event also saw the conferment of honorary degrees on other prominent Nigerians, including the Emir of Kano, His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

A total of 6,779 first-degree graduands and 746 postgraduate students graduated from the institution.
