Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has stated that the President has no involvement whatsoever in the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement posted on his X handle on Monday, titled “My response to Peter Obi’s media people,” Onanuga dismissed claims linking Tinubu to the ADC turmoil, describing the crisis as entirely self-inflicted by the party’s new members.
“What is the connection of Tinubu with the ADC crisis? Absolutely none. Whatever problem they have is self-inflicted,” Onanuga said.
He criticised some politicians for turning President Tinubu into a “whipping boy” for the political problems they created themselves, particularly regarding Peter Obi’s move from the Labour Party to the ADC.
Onanuga added that Obi and his allies need to resolve the internal mess in their new party and focus on competing for the presidential ticket rather than blaming external forces.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the ADC following INEC’s recent actions on the party’s leadership, as opposition figures continue realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
