NUPENG Set to Elect Salimon Akanni Oladiti as New President as Akporeha Bows Out

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) will on April 24 elect Comrade Salimon Akanni Oladiti as its new National President.

This follows the announcement by the incumbent President, Comrade Williams Akporeha, who declared his exit during the Quarterly National Executive Council meeting of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch (PTD-NUPENG) held in Warri, Delta State, at the weekend.

Oladiti, a former Chairman of the PTD-NUPENG and current National Trustee of the union, is expected to emerge unopposed at the election scheduled to hold in Lagos.

His election will be historic as he will become the first member from the Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch to be elected President of NUPENG.

At the Warri meeting, the motion for Oladiti’s ratification as President was moved by the Zonal Chairman of PTD-NUPENG Port Harcourt, Comrade Joseph Okafor, and seconded by Comrade Adekunle Akinlaja from the Lagos Zone.

In his valedictory remarks, Akporeha thanked members of the PTD branch for their unwavering support during his eight-year tenure.

He said his decision to back a tanker driver for the position was a matter of conviction and gratitude for their loyalty.

The transition is expected to be smooth, with members urged to rally behind the incoming leadership to sustain the union’s stability.
