Meta Platforms Inc. has filed an appeal against a Lagos State High Court ruling that ordered the tech giant to pay $25,000 in damages to prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN).
The appeal, dated April 10, challenges the judgment delivered by Justice O. A. Oresanya in Suit No. LD/18843MFHR/2025.
The court had ruled that a video published on Meta’s platform violated Falana’s fundamental rights.Meta is contesting the decision, arguing against the award and the finding of liability.
The case stems from a video publication that Falana claimed infringed on his rights.
Further proceedings in the appeal will be closely monitored as it could have implications for content moderation and liability of social media platforms operating in Nigeria.
