Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of desperately seeking the vice presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Olayinka made the claim in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, alleging that Makinde is threatening violence because he has lost influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and is now “partyless.”
According to Olayinka, the governor failed in his bid to gain total control of the PDP to pursue what he described as a “juvenile vice presidential ambition.”
He further claimed Makinde is now positioning himself for the vice presidential slot on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The Wike aide warned that Makinde’s alleged threats of violence could revive the “operation wetie” political thuggery of the 1960s in the South West.
He listed several alleged failures and controversies surrounding the governor, including:
Failure to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rahidi Adewolu Ladoja
Unsuccessful attempt to stop Sharafadeen Alli from contesting the APC governorship ticket in Oyo State through forceful means
Failure to account for the ₦30 billion received from the Federal Government to compensate victims of the Bodija, Ibadan explosion in January 2024 (money which Makinde reportedly promised to return but has not)
Olayinka questioned whether Makinde would risk sending his own children to lead any potential violence.
The statement highlights the deepening rift within opposition political circles as different blocs position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
