Former Chairman of Ringim Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Shehu Sule Udi, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.
Udi announced his decision in a personally signed letter dated Thursday, April 2, 2026, addressed to the APC ward chairman in Ringim. A copy of the letter was made available to journalists.
In the letter, Udi stated: “I hereby formally resign my membership of the APC with immediate effect.”
He explained that the decision followed wide consultations with his supporters and a careful assessment of the prevailing situation within the party.
“The decision is informed by recent developments at the local, state, and national levels, which have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue aligning with the party’s current direction, as it appears to have deviated from its founding ideals,” Udi wrote.
He thanked the APC for the opportunities given to him and wished the party success in its future endeavours.
Udi did not indicate which political party he plans to join next, though some of his supporters have reportedly urged him to move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The resignation adds to the growing number of defections from the APC in Jigawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
No immediate reaction from the APC leadership in the state was reported as of the time of filing this report.
