Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly attempting to supply ammunition to bandits in the North West.
The suspect was intercepted at a major motor park in Kano while transporting over 200 rounds of newly acquired ammunition.
She was reportedly moving the consignment from Lafia to Kankara in Katsina State, where the ammunition was allegedly intended for bandit groups operating in the forest areas of Zamfara and surrounding states.
Security sources said the arrest was based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of illegal arms and ammunition through Kano.
The DSS has taken the suspect and the recovered ammunition into custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
This latest arrest highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to disrupt the supply of arms and ammunition to criminal elements fuelling banditry and insecurity in the North West region.
No further details on the suspect’s accomplices or the exact source of the ammunition were released as of the time of this report.
