INEC Deregistration: Professional Party of Jumpers, Blame Yourselves – Omokri Hits ADC

The Nigerian Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has sharply criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC), labeling it a "professional party of jumpers" and urging its leaders to accept responsibility for their current predicament following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to withdraw recognition from the party’s factions.

In a statement titled “INEC De-registration: ADC Professional Party Jumpers Have Only Themselves to Blame,” Omokri addressed the ongoing leadership crisis between the David Mark-led faction and the rival group associated with Nafiu Bala Gombe.

He argued that the David Mark group brought the deregistration upon themselves by appealing a Federal High Court ruling instead of complying with it.

Omokri noted that he reviewed the spokesperson’s rejection of INEC’s interpretation of the March 12, 2026, Court of Appeal judgment but found no alternative interpretation offered.

He emphasized that as law-abiding citizens, the faction should have adhered to the court’s decision after choosing to appeal.

“The David Mark group from the ADC clearly caused this disaster on their own,” Omokri stated. He warned against attempts to incite public anger against INEC, describing such moves as “risky and desperate.”

Omokri further attributed the ADC’s troubles to opportunistic motives rather than genuine democratic ideals.

“Their shift into the ADC was driven by business interests rather than by a natural sense of democracy,” he said.

He advised the group to either resolve the issues with their “faulty product” or seek another political platform, noting that with elections just ten months away, starting a new party from scratch would be nearly impossible.

The comments come amid heightened tensions after INEC acted on the Court of Appeal’s order to maintain the status quo, effectively delisting officials from both ADC factions.

The party has pushed back strongly, accusing INEC of bias and demanding leadership changes at the electoral body.

This development highlights the deep factional rifts within the ADC and the broader challenges facing smaller opposition parties in Nigeria as they prepare for upcoming polls.
