The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application seeking to stop the renewal of Nigeria’s pipeline surveillance contract.
In a ruling on Monday, Justice Bello rejected the request for an interim injunction filed by the Registered Trustees of the People’s Well-Being Association against the Attorney General of the Federation, NNPCL, NSCDC, Tantita Security Services, and other parties.
The claimants had urged the court to restrain the Federal Government and NNPCL from renewing the contract, hand over pipeline protection to national security agencies, and disclose all payments made under the arrangement.
Justice Bello refused the interim orders, warning that granting them would be “inimical to national economic stability” and could trigger increased oil theft and huge revenue losses.
The judge emphasised that no court should issue an order capable of plunging the nation into economic crisis.
The court ruled that the government and NNPCL are free to proceed with the contract renewal.
It also directed all existing contractors, including Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited, to continue their operations in the national interest pending the final determination of the substantive suit.
The ruling highlights the critical role of the current pipeline surveillance arrangement in protecting Nigeria’s oil infrastructure and sustaining the economy.
