FG Naming IPOB as Terror Sponsors is Contempt of Court – Aloy Ejimakor

Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has strongly condemned the Federal Government for designating IPOB as a sponsor of terrorism.

The Nigeria Sanctions Committee (NSC) recently published a list on its website naming IPOB alongside notorious terror groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The list also includes Finland-based IPOB factional leader Simon Ekpa, publisher of Desert Herald Tukur Mamu, and dozens of other individuals and entities, including several companies and groups like Jama’atu Wal-Jihad and Ansarul Sudan.

Reacting to the development, Ejimakor described the government’s action as a clear case of contempt of court, noting that the matter is still pending before the Supreme Court and therefore sub judice.

In a post on X, Ejimakor stated: “The recent publication by the Federal government naming the #IPOB amongst terrorist sponsors is CONTEMPT of Court, because the case is still pending before the Supreme Court & therefore subjudice. I know this for a fact, because I personally signed & filed the appeal.”

The development comes amid ongoing legal battles surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s detention and the proscribed status of IPOB.
