Barring any last-minute changes, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will hold its National Convention on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the National Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, Abuja.
The party’s leadership, headed by National Chairman Senator David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, has finalised arrangements for the event at the venue, which also hosted the party’s last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
According to party sources, the ADC was earlier denied access to two venues, including the Abuja Transport Hilton Hotel, despite prior arrangements.
The party suspects possible sabotage and has therefore kept the Rainbow Event Centre as its confirmed venue under wraps until now.
The venue, located adjacent to the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters, is currently being moderately decorated ahead of the convention.
Sources say the ADC plans to fully move into the facility in the early hours of Tuesday.The leadership has already communicated the venue to state chapters with strict instructions not to publicise it.
The convention comes amid a major leadership crisis between the ADC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC has suspended recognition of the Senator David Mark-led faction following an Appeal Court ruling that the status quo ante bellum be maintained.
The party has approached the Supreme Court seeking intervention.In preparation for the event, the ADC has formally written to the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, requesting adequate security.
The development adds to ongoing tensions within the party, as it battles for survival while preparing for the inauguration of new state executives on May 12.
