A major explosion has been reported in Iran following the downing of a United States fighter jet, as the ongoing war between US-Israel forces and Iran entered a dangerous new phase on Friday, April 4, 2026.
According to the US-based Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRANA), the United States, in collaboration with Israel, launched more than 200 attacks across 13 Iranian provinces within a 24-hour period. The strikes killed at least one civilian.
The escalation came after Iranian forces shot down a US fighter jet earlier on Friday. Iranian state media and rights groups reported the incident, which has heightened tensions in the conflict that began on February 28.
HRANA’s news service said the attacks targeted multiple locations, contributing to the rising death toll. Since the war started, US-Israeli strikes have killed 1,607 civilians, 1,213 military personnel, and 711 people whose status is unknown, according to the group’s tally.
Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education reported that at least 2,076 people have been killed in total as of Friday.
The downing of the US jet has triggered intense search and rescue operations by American forces, with reports of additional US aircraft being struck by Iranian air defenses during rescue efforts.
