APC Calls for Deregistration of ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arguing that the opposition party lacks electoral value and contributes to unnecessary cluttering of ballot papers.

The National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the call while addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, April 4, 2026. He described the ADC as a “coalition of confusion” plagued by internal wrangling and serial electoral failures.

“We are calling on INEC to deregister the ADC. We don’t want the ballot papers clustered with unviable political parties,” Basiru stated.

He emphasised that the ADC has not won any significant elections since its formation as a coalition and accused it of wasting Nigerians’ time and resources.

According to him, the ongoing crisis within the ADC is sufficient grounds for its removal from the list of registered political parties.

The APC National Secretary further boasted that the ruling party remains the only one fully complying with electoral laws and possesses a strong nationwide structure that cannot be defeated by any opposition coalition.

This demand comes amid the lingering leadership crisis in the ADC, following INEC’s recent decision to suspend official recognition of the party’s leadership pending court resolution.

The development has heightened political tensions as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The ADC has emerged as a major opposition platform, attracting several prominent politicians, including former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
