El-Rufai’s Detention Killed his Mother – Kenneth Okonkwo

Nollywood actor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) led to the death of his mother.

El-Rufai was arrested and detained by the ICPC over alleged corruption during his time in office.

He was later arraigned before a Kaduna State High Court and granted bail. While in custody, he lost his mother and was given administrative bail to attend her burial.

In an interview with Symponi TV, Okonkwo blamed the emotional trauma on El-Rufai’s aged mother, claiming it contributed directly to her passing.

“The incarceration of El-Rufai killed his mother. You know when mothers get to that age, they are so sentimental, they become so emotional,” Okonkwo said.

He added: “Let me tell you, somebody told my mother that thieves stole from the houses of some of her children, she felt so bad.

Then you can imagine an aged woman of 90 years and you are telling her that they arrested her son. Some people might tell her that her son has died. That is what killed her in my own opinion.”

Okonkwo further accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of manipulating the judiciary, noting that El-Rufai was only released after his mother’s death without a court order.

“When the woman died, that is when they remembered that they would release El-Rufai without court order, meaning that they are the one using the judiciary, because you can’t disobey the order of the court,” he stated.

The comments have sparked reactions as El-Rufai’s case continues to generate public discourse.
