The Osun State Government has warned the Nigeria Police Force against accepting any security vehicles donated by All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen in the state.
In a strongly worded statement on Friday, the government described the proposed donation as a “poisoned gift” with malicious intentions and urged the police to reject it to protect the integrity of the force.
The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, argued that the APC chairmen currently managing the local councils lack a valid mandate, as their tenure is still subject to ongoing court cases.
“The so-called APC council executives, who have imposed themselves on the local governments without any legal basis, should not be seen as legitimate authorities providing support to security agencies,” the statement read.
The government noted that court judgments on the matter are expected on May 12 and May 21, 2026, and called on the state Commissioner of Police and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to direct officers in Osun to reject the vehicles until the legal dispute is resolved.
The warning follows an announcement by the Osun APC that its local government chairmen planned to donate operational vehicles to the police to enhance security.
The APC had criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, saying the protection of lives and property should not be politicised.
The dispute over local government control in Osun stems from two sets of elections: one held in October 2022 under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola (APC) and another in February 2025 under Governor Adeleke.
Both sides are currently in court seeking validation of their positions.
