The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) moved swiftly to woo Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, following indications that he may join the opposition party.
In a statement, the ADC claimed that shortly after the
governor signalled interest in defecting, the APC deployed top party figures,
including its national chairman and some governors, to Bauchi in a bid to
persuade him to remain.
“The hustle is real. A few hours after Governor Bala
Mohammed indicated his plan to join the ADC, the APC dispatched its National
Chairman and governors to Bauchi to beg him, promising to receive him on his
terms,” the party said.
The ADC suggested that the development reflects growing
political pressure on the ruling party.
“So, it takes only one defection to bring these people down
from their haughty horses,” it added.
The party, however, maintained that it believes the
situation may already be beyond reversal.
“But we know it is too late. Sorry, ADC is rising, Nigeria
is rising,” the statement added
