Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has engaged the services of Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a Washington-based lobbying firm, in a $1.2 million contract aimed at protecting and enhancing his “reputational standing” in the United States.
The 12-month agreement, which will be paid in six installments, was signed by Karl Von Batten, the firm’s managing partner, and Nigerian politician Fabiyi Oladimeji on March 9 and 10, 2026, respectively.
The contract has been filed with the US Department of Justice.
According to the agreement, the firm will work to counter lobbying narratives promoted by the Nigerian federal government and arrange meetings with US officials on behalf of Atiku.
The development comes amid heightened political activities in Nigeria as various opposition figures and coalitions position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
