Former PDP presidential aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has declared that efforts to rescue the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections are futile, describing it as a “lost battle.”
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Olawepo-Hashim, who recently quit the party, said he has given up on any reconciliation process that would merely enthrone the incumbent president.
“The PDP has now degenerated into a party in the pockets of a PDP minister who is working with the opposition. I give up; it is a lost battle trying to save the PDP,” he stated.
Olawepo-Hashim revealed he had remained optimistic about reconciling the various factions in the party until the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s group held its own convention.
He noted that there was an earlier agreement to harmonise the executive committee and hold a unity convention that would ratify a harmonised list.
However, the Wike-led faction allegedly disregarded this and conducted its convention unilaterally.
“What was not the huge challenge for me, but there was this loud noise that they were going to ratify the incumbent President, Bola Tinubu for 2027,” he added.
Olawepo-Hashim said he would not be part of any process that effectively coronates President Tinubu for a second term under the PDP platform.
