Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has intensified efforts to woo former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau back into the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid major political realignments ahead of 2027.
The move follows Governor Yusuf’s exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s departure from NNPP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Kwankwaso recently welcomed Nasir Gawuna, Yusuf’s rival in the last election, into the ADC after he dumped the APC.Upon returning from Abuja, Governor Yusuf warned the ADC that they “would never win Kano.”
According to Daily Trust, Yusuf held a closed-door meeting with Shekarau in Abuja, accompanied by Kano APC Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa.
The meeting is part of ongoing consultations to bring Shekarau back to the APC.The development comes shortly after Shekarau hinted at leaving the PDP but ruled out joining the ADC.
Shekarau, a former Minister of Education and influential Kano politician, is widely seen as a potential game-changer.
While he is yet to make a public declaration, insiders say negotiations are progressing and he may rejoin the APC.
