Yusuf Tuggar, the immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.
Tuggar made the declaration on Saturday while addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a political rally in Bauchi, where he expressed his ambition to contest under the APC platform.
The former minister said he was stepping forward “not for power but for service and progress,” pledging to build on the legacies of past leaders while introducing fresh initiatives to move the state forward.
He unveiled a comprehensive blueprint anchored on a 10-point agenda aimed at accelerating sustainable social and economic development.
The agenda prioritises:
Economic diversification
Agricultural transformation
Livestock development
Health and education
Women and youth empowerment
Digital innovation and entrepreneurship
Clean energy
Infrastructure and rural development
Anti-corruption campaign
Improved salaries and welfare for workers
Tuggar also promised to promote youth-inclusive governance and strengthen security through community policing, involving collaboration between the government, security agencies, community leaders, and religious bodies to ensure lasting peace and stability in the state.
“If elected, I will initiate sound programmes that will fast-track development and improve the living conditions of our people,” he stated.
He appealed to party stakeholders and supporters to back his bid so he can secure the APC ticket and emerge as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election.
Tuggar’s entry into the race adds a significant dimension to the emerging contest in Bauchi State, as political activities intensify ahead of the next general elections.
The former diplomat is widely seen as bringing both national exposure and a reform-oriented agenda to the state’s political landscape.
