Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday hosted a grand state banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, celebrating him as "one of our own" whose roots and character were shaped by the city.
The event, held at the Parliament Building in Marina, Lagos, brought together senior government officials, security chiefs, community leaders, and other dignitaries to recognise Disu's rise to the pinnacle of the Nigeria Police Force.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu traced Disu's journey from his birth on Lagos Island, through his education at Lagos State University, to his early grounding in service and responsibility on the city's streets.
He described the IGP as a product of Lagos who has served Nigeria with discipline and dedication.
"Tonight, we hosted a State Banquet in celebration of one of our own, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu," Sanwo-Olu said. "Long before the world knew him as IGP, Lagos knew him."
He added: "Here’s to the OG Good Guy of the Good Guys, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, son of Lagos and servant of Nigeria."
The banquet reflects the pride many in Lagos take in Disu's appointment and leadership, with tributes highlighting his contributions to security, particularly during his earlier roles in the state, including as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.
Photos from the colourful evening captured the warm atmosphere, elegant setting, and high-profile guests in attendance.
