Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved immediate scholarships for no fewer than 148 indigent students from the state to attend the Nigerian Law School (NLS) in Lagos for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The announcement was made on Monday in Damaturu by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology (HEST), Prof. Bello Kawuwa, who represented the governor at a joint meeting of the Yobe State Scholarships Board (YOSB) and the HEST ministry.
During the event, scholarship payments were disbursed directly to the 148 selected beneficiaries, drawn from all 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
Prof. Kawuwa emphasized that the Buni administration remains committed to prioritizing education and will continue to support students of Yobe origin pursuing higher education across various institutions in Nigeria.
He urged the scholarship recipients to approach their studies at the Nigerian Law School with seriousness and dedication, noting that their success would justify the state’s investment in education, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and the legal profession.
The scholarship initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to enhance access to quality education and empower indigent but talented youths to contribute to national development through professional training.
