President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, March 15, 2026, received the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, for a private closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock.
Photos released by the State House media office captured the two leaders in warm exchanges during what appeared to be a one-on-one audience.
The purpose of the meeting was not disclosed at the time of reporting. The visit comes shortly after the Sultan was absent from President Tinubu's interfaith Iftar dinner with religious and traditional leaders on March 9, where he was represented by the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.
That event, attended by Muslim and Christian leaders as well as monarchs from across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, saw President Tinubu reaffirm national unity and vow that Nigeria would never yield to terrorists.
The Sultan, who serves as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has maintained regular consultations with the President on matters of national importance.
President Tinubu has hosted several Iftar sessions at the Villa throughout Ramadan, including with governors, lawmakers, security chiefs, and political party leaders, as the holy month nears its end.
