The Osun State Police Command has detained two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in connection with a shooting incident that left a driver dead in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
The suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were reportedly pursuing vehicles suspected to be foreign-used ("tokunbo") cars when the incident occurred. According to police, one of the chased vehicles an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration AAA 400 GQ was involved, and its driver was fatally shot.
The victim was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
His body has been deposited in the hospital morgue pending identification and autopsy.Police operatives responded swiftly to reports of gunfire, apprehending the two Customs officers shortly after the incident.
Items recovered from the scene include a Beretta pistol (breech number 125024), eleven rounds of 9mm live ammunition, one expended 9mm shell, and another Toyota Corolla (registration GFQ 0982, Texas).
In a statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Osun State Police Command confirmed the arrests and announced that Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has ordered a comprehensive investigation to establish the full circumstances.
“The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that occurred today in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo,” the statement read.
The police assured that the culprits would face the full weight of the law and urged residents to remain calm while providing any credible information to aid the ongoing probe.
