Former Minister of Aviation and ex-Senator Stella Oduah has announced her intention to contest for a Senate seat again, just days after entering a plea bargain arrangement with the Federal Government in an ongoing ₦2.4 billion fraud case.
Oduah, who previously represented Anambra North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now reportedly positioning herself to run on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming elections. Campaign posters declaring her ambition have reportedly appeared across Anambra State and online, signaling an active political push.
The development comes shortly after court proceedings revealed progress in her fraud trial. Oduah, along with co-defendant Gloria Odita, faces a five-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretenses, and criminal breach of trust.
The allegations stem from claims that the defendants conspired in January 2014 to fraudulently obtain approximately ₦2.4 billion from the Federal Ministry of Aviation through companies including Broad Waters Resources Nigeria Ltd and Global Offshore Marine Ltd.
During a recent hearing before Justice Hamza Muazu at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) informed the court that the defendants had applied for a plea bargain under Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
Oyedepo stated that they had begun refunding a portion of the alleged funds to government coffers, though the exact amount was not disclosed. He noted: “The defendants have made a move to refund a certain amount of the money into the government coffers.”
Oduah's counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), and counsel for the co-defendant, Favour Osunaya, confirmed the ongoing negotiations and refund process. The case was adjourned to March 26 for further updates on the plea bargain.
This marks a potential resolution to legal proceedings that began with Oduah's arraignment in December 2025 by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. Oduah had previously attempted a Senate bid in 2023 on the APGA platform but withdrew due to internal party competition.
