Businesswoman Tracy Ohiri has publicly apologized to the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, retracting sensational claims that had circulated online and caused significant controversy.
In a video statement that surfaced recently, Ohiri clarified that she never alleged the minister tied a wrapper (or towel) around himself to meet her in a hotel room, a detail that had fueled widespread speculation and memes. She emphasized that such a claim was not made by her.
“I never said Engineer Deacon David Umahi tied a wrapper to meet me in a hotel room,” Ohiri stated. “I apologize to Minister Umahi for the embarrassment this allegation may have caused him and his family.”
The apology follows earlier accusations by Ohiri, in which she claimed the minister owed her money related to a business or contractual matter, with some reports suggesting additional allegations of improper advances that were allegedly rebuffed.
Those claims had drawn public attention, including commentary from activists and online discussions. Ohiri indicated that after consultations with her family, legal team, and close associates, she and her family have chosen to move on from the matter to focus on their lives and business. She expressed regret over any distress or misinterpretation the situation may have generated.
The development has sparked varied reactions online, with some viewing the retraction as a resolution to the dispute, while others have questioned the circumstances surrounding the apology.
Minister Umahi has previously denied the original allegations. No further official statements from his office were immediately available regarding this latest development.
