Bashir Ahmad, a prominent Nigerian Muslim commentator and former presidential aide, has strongly condemned remarks attributed to Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, calling the pastor's alleged reference to Allah as a “bloodsucking demon” a profound injustice and deep provocation.
In a pointed statement shared on X, Ahmad opened with the line that has since become the focal point of the controversy:“It is a great injustice to us for a Christian religious leader, that Pastor Ezekiel, to refer to our Creator as a ‘bloodsucking demon’ (A’uzubillah).”
Ahmad described the statement as “extremely offensive” and among “the highest forms of provocation against the beliefs of billions of Muslims.”
He further accused the pastor of a pattern of repeated inflammatory comments seemingly intended to elicit reactions from the Muslim community, possibly for personal or external gain, including sympathy, asylum claims, or financial support from Western audiences.
Despite previous provocations, Ahmad highlighted the Muslim community's consistent choice of restraint, refusing to provide the attention the pastor may have sought.
However, he warned that this latest remark directly insulting the Almighty, crosses a “dangerous line.”While expressing confidence that widespread reaction would not materialize, Ahmad urged Nigerian security authorities to take note and issue a formal caution to the pastor against further “reckless and inflammatory utterances.”
The controversy originates from a widely circulated video clip in which Rev. Dachomo, a vocal advocate for Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, reportedly made the inflammatory statement amid discussions of violence against Christians in the region.
The full context of his remarks has fueled intense online debate about religious tolerance, free speech, and the boundaries of criticism in Nigeria’s multi-faith society.
