The Osun State Government has launched a pre-campaign offensive against the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, declaring him unfit to lead the state.
In a statement issued through Governor Ademola Adeleke's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo, the governor's office outlined 23 reasons why Oyebamiji allegedly lacks the qualifications, competency, and suitability for the governorship.
The accusations focus on his past roles, including as head of the Osun State Investment Company (OSICOL) and as Commissioner for Finance under a previous administration.
Key allegations include:
Mismanagement of state resources at OSICOL, particularly in handling properties in Lagos and Abuja.
Authorization of a non-transparent sale of the state's stake in Omoluabi to a proxy firm.
Implementation and endorsement of anti-worker policies, such as half salaries for civil servants, non-payment of pension debts and entitlements to retirees, retention of an external payroll manager (Chams) that exposed the state to fraud risks instead of using the SIFMIS system, non-appointment of Permanent Secretaries, and withholding of promotion allowances.
Mishandling of state mining assets and licences, including the Segilola project, which deprived Osun of revenue until renegotiated by the current administration.
Failure to properly manage a $20 million World Bank primary healthcare grant, which reportedly became a "slush fund."
Contribution to unsustainable debt levels that reached an all-time high by 2022 (later reduced by over 40% under Governor Adeleke, according to the National Debt Management Office).
Other claims involve politicized procurement processes, underfunding of Osun State University leading to project abandonments and accreditation issues, promotion of capital flight to Lagos, and recent concerns over religious insensitivity in campaigning and questions about his name and qualifications in INEC filings.
The statement described Oyebamiji's record across three broad areas as a complete failure, contrasting it sharply with Governor Adeleke's achievements in debt reduction, innovation, and leadership.
It noted that detailed evidence on each point would be released starting March 11, when official governorship campaigns begin, with the provided details serving as an abridged preview for public awareness.
The accusations come amid heightened political tensions in Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election, with the ruling party (aligned with Adeleke) positioning the incumbent's performance against the opposition challenger's past record.
