Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has called on the Abia State Government to take concrete steps to immortalise the late Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, a renowned Pentecostal preacher who died in October 2025.
Kalu made the appeal on Monday in a statement issued ahead of the cleric’s burial scheduled for this week in Ohafia, Abia State.
The former Abia governor described the late Rev. Ukpai as “a great servant of God” whose life was defined by service, sacrifice, and commitment to humanity.
“With the burial of this great servant of God taking place in Ohafia this week, it is only fitting that the Abia State Government takes concrete steps to immortalise him,” Kalu said.
He noted that immortalising the cleric would help preserve his legacy and serve as an inspiration to future generations, especially at a time when moral values are being seriously challenged in society.
Kalu urged leaders across the state and the country to emulate the virtues of the late preacher, particularly his humility, discipline, and total dedication to service.
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80, was the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association.
His ministry spanned over six decades and was known for massive crusades and extensive humanitarian work that touched lives across Nigeria and beyond.
Kalu also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, members of his church, and associates, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the loss during this period of burial.
The call for immortalisation is expected to spark discussions on how best to honour the late cleric’s contributions to spiritual and community development in Abia State and Nigeria as a whole.
