Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has revealed that intense pressure from his parents, traditional rulers, supporters and other stakeholders has forced him to reconsider his earlier decision not to seek any elective office after his tenure ends in 2027.
Governor Sule made the disclosure on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.
The governor, who is serving his second and final term, had previously stated after his Supreme Court victory that he had no intention of contesting for the Senate, House of Representatives or any other position.
He explained that his initial decision was firm, influenced by his private sector background, but the overwhelming demands from his political base changed the situation.
“As I’m leaving office now, I have had all kinds of statements from followers that when you leave, what do you expect of us? We have worked so hard to work with you to become the governor for eight years,” Sule said.
“My parents, traditional rulers, supporters, people I call my bosses and every other person have mounted pressure on me to run for Senate.
“So now I made the categorical statement that it’s not my intention to come and seek for any other office… but if this is what the people want, I can reconsider that decision.”
The governor stressed that he meant his original decision to step aside from active politics after eight years in office, but the persistent calls from those who supported his governorship have made him open to a senatorial bid in 2027.
No final decision has been taken, as he continues to weigh the pressures against his earlier resolve.
The development adds to the growing political realignments and calculations across Nigeria as politicians begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections.
