An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was killed on Friday during the distribution of Ramadan and Sallah palliatives in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The tragic incident occurred at a programme organised by Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the member representing the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
In a statement confirming the event, the lawmaker alleged that the officer lost his life after hoodlums attempted to disrupt the orderly distribution of the relief materials.
Doguwa expressed deep shock at the development, describing it as a tragic and unfortunate loss.
He extended condolences to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the family of the deceased officer, and the people of Tudun Wada."May Allah grant him mercy and forgiveness," Doguwa said in the statement.
He urged security agencies to swiftly launch a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators of the violence and ensure they face the full consequences of the law.
The lawmaker also cautioned against the circulation of false information or defamatory claims directly linking him to the incident, warning that legal action would be taken to safeguard his reputation and that of his constituents.
Doguwa prayed for the peaceful repose of the officer's soul and emphasised that the event should serve as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and security measures during public gatherings and distributions.
He noted that he had personally overseen the sharing of food items and other support materials to residents in the area.
