The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces conducted decisive operations across multiple regions from March 7 to March 12, 2026, eliminating over 30 terrorists, including high-value targets and rescuing dozens of abducted victims.
Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed these achievements during a weekly operational update in Abuja.
In the Northeast, under Operation HADIN KAI, troops curtailed terrorist movements and disrupted supply lines in Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa States.
Key actions included repelling attacks in Mafa and Jere LGAs of Borno on March 9, where an arms cache was recovered, and thwarting simultaneous assaults on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tuba and Doro Baga on March 10.
In Goniri, Yobe State, troops neutralized over 20 terrorists, including a high-value target identified as Abu Yusu (Munzir of Dursula) during a multi-directional night attack, recovering weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammunition, and insurgent supplies while rescuing kidnapped victims.
In Adamawa, responses to distress calls in Madagali and Maiha LGAs led to the recovery of 23 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) intended for terrorist use.
Onoja noted that since 2015, Operation HADIN KAI has facilitated the surrender of 122,843 insurgents.
In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA targeted terrorists in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
Troops rescued victims from the Mpape-Kuyeri Forest along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, destroyed a terrorist enclave in Tangaza LGA of Sokoto, and intercepted ammunition and rustled cattle in Gudu and Dagozawa villages.
Across the North Central zone, operations including SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE, and WHIRL STROKE pressured criminals and terrorists in states such as Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Bauchi, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Kogi.
These efforts neutralized terrorists, recovered arms, and rescued victims, with notable actions in Edu LGA (Kwara), Riyom and Mangu LGAs (Plateau), and the interception of explosives in Bauchi State.
In the South-South and South-East, Operations DELTA SAFE and UDO KA dismantled criminal and separatist networks, including elements of IPOB and ESN.
Troops destroyed illegal oil refining sites in Egbema West LGA (Imo), neutralized suspected kidnappers in Egoro Forest (Edo), and disarmed IEDs in Orsu LGA (Imo) to enhance civilian safety.
Maj.-Gen. Onoja commended the troops' courage and professionalism in the face of challenges.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, praised members of the public for providing intelligence and reaffirmed the military's commitment to troop welfare, inter-agency collaboration, and restoring peace and stability nationwide.
