The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai swiftly intervened to thwart an overnight attack by insurgents on a military base in Goniri, Yobe State, eliminating several terrorists and restoring control to defending troops.
The assault targeted troops of the 120 Battalion under Sector 2, occurring around 0015 hours (12:15 a.m.) on Monday. Insurgents managed to breach the defensive perimeter and engaged soldiers in intense ground combat in an attempt to overrun the position.
Ground forces promptly issued a distress call, prompting an immediate scramble of fighter aircraft for close air support. The jets quickly located the hostile fighters positioned near the base and delivered precise strikes.
Two bombs were dropped with high accuracy on the terrorists' locations. As the aircraft appeared overhead, many insurgents attempted to flee, but the airstrikes proved devastating, neutralising at least 10 terrorists.
The rapid and effective aerial response disrupted the attackers' momentum, broke their assault, and enabled ground troops to regain the tactical upper hand. The base remained secure following the engagement.
