The Lagos Community Central Mosque in Alausa on Friday organised a special prayer session for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of activities marking his 74th birthday on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Clerics led the congregation in reciting Quranic verses and offered fervent prayers for the President’s continued protection, strength, wisdom, and divine guidance as he leads the nation through its current challenges.
The prayer session is part of a series of religious activities lined up across Lagos State to celebrate the occasion, with similar prayers held simultaneously in mosques across the state’s five divisions Ikorodu, Badagry, Lagos Island, Ikeja, and Epe.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, expressed appreciation to the religious leaders for the initiative.
He noted that March holds special significance for President Tinubu and that the prayers reflect the goodwill and support of the people towards his leadership.
Sanwo-Olu thanked Lagos residents for their continued trust and support, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges under Tinubu’s administration.
He urged citizens not to be complacent about the President’s political future but to remain actively engaged in the democratic process.
The governor called on eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and participate fully in future elections, emphasising the need for sustained mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general polls.
He reaffirmed the President’s commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at improving security and strengthening the nation.
Sanwo-Olu also mentioned that proposals on the operational framework for state police have been submitted to the National Assembly, urging Nigerians to exercise patience and trust in the administration’s long-term vision for national development.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters (Islamic), Dr Jebe Abdullahi, described the prayer session as a recognition of Tinubu’s immense contributions to society.
He highlighted the President’s role as a mentor and leader who has contributed significantly to the development of Lagos and the nation.
Abdullahi noted that praying for national leaders is a religious duty and recalled how Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State Governor laid the foundation for many of the state’s current governance structures.
Chairman of the Lagos Community Central Mosque, Afis Gbolahan Toriola, said the gathering was not only to honour the President but also to seek divine intervention for the stability and progress of the country.
He stressed that Islamic teachings encourage prayers for leaders and those in authority.
Toriola added that the prayers also covered other state officials, including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, as well as other government functionaries, asking for wisdom and direction in their decision-making for the benefit of all citizens.
The birthday celebrations are expected to continue with church services on Sunday.
