The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing construction of the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters in Abuja.
In a post shared on his official social media accounts, the Minister described the facility as a cutting-edge, AI-driven, multilayered system designed to bolster ongoing reforms in Nigeria's immigration sector.
The centre incorporates dedicated cybersecurity and network operations units, aimed at enhancing real-time monitoring, coordination, and response capabilities across border management, migration processes, and expatriate administration.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the project represents a significant advancement in leveraging technology to modernize immigration services, improve national security, and streamline administrative efficiency. The IOC is expected to serve as a central hub for integrating advanced tools that support border control, combat irregular migration threats, and facilitate legitimate travel and residency processes.
The inspection reflects the Ministry of Interior's commitment to digital transformation and innovation under the current administration. Officials from the NIS, including top management, have welcomed the development as a major boost to operational effectiveness and institutional reforms.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Ministry to deploy artificial intelligence, biometrics, and other modern technologies in strengthening Nigeria's border security architecture.
The facility is anticipated to play a pivotal role in addressing contemporary challenges in migration management and expatriate oversight.
