Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has launched a significant initiative to empower livestock farmers, distributing essential production equipment and inputs to 5,000 farmer cooperatives across the state's 23 local government areas.
Represented by Deputy Governor Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe at the flag-off ceremony on Thursday, March 13, 2026, Governor Sani emphasized that the program aligns with his administration's vision to position Kaduna as the agricultural and livestock capital of northern Nigeria.
The distributed items include:500 solar-powered freezers (complete with solar panels, inverters, and batteries) to help preserve products and reduce post-harvest losses,
300 feed millers to enable cooperatives to produce their own animal feed,
3,000 bags of poultry feed,
200,000 day-old chicks to boost poultry production.
These resources will directly benefit 5,000 farmers, organized into cooperatives of 10 members each, promoting collective use and sustainability.
In his statement, Governor Sani highlighted the broader impact: “These assets will boost productivity, reduce losses, improve quality and expand income opportunities — especially for women and youth who drive much of Kaduna’s livestock value chain.”
He urged beneficiaries to use and maintain the equipment responsibly: “Use these assets wisely and collectively. Maintain them, expand their impact and let them become the tools of your prosperity.”
The governor noted that Kaduna aims to become a hub for agricultural innovation, productivity, and inclusive growth. He pointed to complementary efforts, such as vaccination campaigns that have protected over 850,000 cattle, 250,000 sheep and goats, 250,000 poultry, and 5,000 dogs from diseases, alongside other supports like Tallafin Noma for crop farmers, rural road projects, and agro-industrial zones to enhance processing and exports under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
This livestock intervention builds on prior distributions, including residue crushers, fodder choppers, solar-powered boreholes, veterinary services, and dairy equipment, underscoring the state's ongoing commitment to transforming rural livelihoods and agricultural value chains.
